Your appointment
However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:
- by phone
- face to face at the surgery
- on a video call
- by text or email
Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.
Missed Appointments
Non-attendance, late arrivals or last-minute cancellations can have a significant impact on the appointment availability at the practice.
In 2024 approximately around 1000 booked appointments were not attended.
This works out to approximately 19 wasted appointments each week.
We ask for a minimum of one full working day to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
Cancelling or changing an appointment
If possible, we ask for at least one full working day to cancel an appointment.
To cancel your appointment:
- use your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
- using the GP online system – SystmOnline
- phone us on 01263 724500
- Follow the link on your text message appointment reminders
If you are cancelling your appointment on the same day, we may not be able to offer that time slot to another patient. This means we lose clinician appointment time.
We may update your records as “Did not attend”.
Late Arrivals
If you arrive 5 or more minutes late for your appointment, you will be asked to rebook.
Our appointments are booked back-to-back and if you are not here on time, this will impact the clinician and the patients who follow.
If you need help when we are closed
If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.
NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.
Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.
If you need help with your appointment
Please tell us:
- if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
- if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face, by video call or by text or email
- if you need an interpreter
- if you have any other access or communication needs
Home visits
We only visit patients at home if you are medically unable to travel to the Medical Centre.
Clinical staff can assess your needs more thoroughly, with the help of others if needed, at the Medical Centre rather than at your home.
If you are too ill to travel, the clinician may contact you by phone or arrange for another member of the team, such as a community paramedic, district nurse or emergency-care practitioner, to assess you at home.
To request a home visit, it’s helpful if you phone the practice as soon after 8am as possible.
Telephone appointments
We offer telephone appointments with most clinicians which can be booked in advance online.
Pregnant?
Please tell the dispenser or nurse if you are (or think you maybe) pregnant. Your medication will need to be reviewed.
